Radio Times are not the only ones with a Doctor Who Christmas Special-themed issue. TV and Satellite are on the matter too! The cover shows both Doctors, just like the Radio Times one, but not with a fold-out. Instead, they have Miss Hartigan and the newly-designed Cyber Leader on the same cover. The magazine was released today at the price of £1.10 (which is 5p more expensive than Radio Times, which is a whole lot better). Inside is a feature on the festive special, The Next Doctor, along with nine other great Christmassy programmes to watch! Below you can see the main cover, with part of the preview of the episode on one of the pages inside.

Radio Times Special

We have been sent information and the cover of tomorrow's issue of the Radio Times. The issue is a Doctor Who special, with a fantastic cover. The main cover shows the Doctor and 'The Other Doctor' (David Morrissey) in a promotional picture, in a graveyard. You pull out an inside bit to 'find out who they are up against'. They are up against th Cybermen, of course! But also, Miss Hartigan. Is she the new leader of the Cybermen? Also on this part of the cover there is the slight redesign of the Cyber Leader, showing its brain and a black part of the face. The 'CyberKing' has yet to be revealed, but that should be worth waiting for! Of course, having a Doctor Who Radio Times tomorrow does not mean that is will be earlier than expected. It is just a preview, leding up to Christmas, like they do every year. There will be another issue, with something different the next week, then a bumper 2-week Christmas issue. So this is Christmas. We’re at Cyber HQ in London 1851 - in reality a set at Cardiff’s Upper Boat studios in April 2008. This is Torchwood’s Hub cunningly redressed for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special as a sort of huge Cyber-Victorian engine - all cogs, chains, furnaces, pipes and steam. Think steampunk. Or a huge version of the board game Mouse Trap.

Street urchins are shovelling coal into buckets, pouring oil into funnels and trudging up and down rickety wooden stairs. “No smiling, please,” says director Andy Goddard. “You’re not supposed to be enjoying this. It’s hard and tiring. It’s the worst Christmas you’ve ever had.”

At the time of giving the Christmas special its title, The Next Doctor, Davies knew the news of Tennant’s departure would have become public [Tennant announced in October that he’s leaving after filming four more specials next year]. “Hopefully, that creates a bit more intrigue,” says Davies, “and hints at interesting developments in the show’s future. Let’s just say that regeneration is a complicated process, and never as simple as it seems.”

“The Doctors become great friends,” he says. “In this episode the Doctor [Tennant] doesn’t have a companion, which is rare, and my Doctor fills that gap. But all those questions my Doctor wants to ask about himself and his past have to be put aside to save London from destruction.”

Tennant and Morrissey have also worked together before - in the 2004 BBC1 drama Blackpool. “What David’s done with the Doctor is so special,” says Morrissey. “He has moved it on - not just the character, but also how he’s taken on the role publicly. We were filming in Gloucester with 400 people watching. When I got out of the car with David it was like being with a member of Take That! They were shouting, ‘We love you!’ and he was so warm-hearted towards them.”

Morrissey explains his approach to nailing his Doctor: “There has to be an inner truth for me, something at stake, and you have to play that for real.” So did any former Doctors influence his performance? “When I look at Tom Baker and William Hartnell, there’s a truth to their performances; Patrick Troughton as well. They never saw it as a genre show or a children’s show.

Would Morrissey consider a return to Doctor Who? “Oh yeah. Definitely. I love it. I’ve had a great time.” As speculation gathers pace about who’ll take over from Tennant, Morrissey is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the bookies’ favourite. “If they asked me back,” he says, with a twinkle in his eye, “I’d jump at it. I think it’s a great character, and I’ve loved every minute.”

The issue covers the week starting the 6th to the 12th of December. It costs £1.05, and should be avaliable at all good magazine retailers.

News Round-Up

Well, there is a bit more news on The Next Doctor today. There is a debate on the broadcast time of the Christmas special. Apparently, yes, it will still be on at 7pm on the 25th December, but then it is said that it will be on for an hour and a half, until 8:30pm! But Doctor Who Magazine and other places had it as just over one hour. So, what's happening. Then it has also been rumoured that the Doctor Who Prom may air in that time, but this is still unconfirmed. The lady wearing red, with a red umbrella seems to be helping the Cybermen in some way. She is called Miss Hartigan, and she named the creatures as we see in the full trailer after David Tennant's leaving interview. So, who is she? We'll have to wait and see... Also, a new picture has been released, and shows both Doctors appearing in the episode, with the tenth Doctor, david Tennant, holding a fob watch! Is this his own? Didn't he give it to Tim Latimer in Series 3? Then is is 'The Other Doctor's'? Lots of questions, and many answers to be revealed on Christmas Day. View this picture below;

As part of the Children In Need, the first two minutes of this year's Christmas Special, The Next Doctor, was broadcast as a world-wide exclusive on the show. The Doctor arrived in Victorian England, on 24th December 1851, and visited a Christmassy market. He asked a boy the date, and then the year, to which the boy replied 'You thick or something?'. He heard a woman's voice calling for the Doctor, so he presumed it was him, so ran off towards the voice. He found a girl called Rosita, and she was confused as he said that he was the Doctor, when Rosita knew a different one. David Morrissey's Doctor runs on, claiming to be him as well. Morrissey's Doctor tells Rosita to go back to the Tardis, after asking for the sonic screwdriver. Tennant's Doctor also pulls out his sonic screwdriver and they are both menaced by a new terrifying Cybershade, in which the other Doctor says 'Oh, that's new!' Apart from David Morrissey's one was an actual screwdriver and they both shout Allons-Y, after which both Doctors give their other selves strange look. It was shown at around 9pm and just again recently just after 11:50pm. The preview is approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds long, and you can view it below;

After the David Tennant video interview, the full trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Next Doctor, was shown, for the first time in Engaland. It had originally been shown in America at the Comic Con event earlier this year, but that was the only place it had been shown. Now, thanks to the BBC, the have released it, and you can see it in a video below. The trailer is not yet being shown on the television, as it is too early yet, but nearer Christmas it should be, with new and shorter trailers building up. Children In Need Preview

It has been officially announced that one scene from this year's Christmas special, The Next Doctor, will be featuring on Children In Need as part of their annual telethon.

"This never-seen-before footage is a worldwide exclusive and will keep fans all over the globe wondering what's in store for the Doctor's next adventure."

This exclusive preview will be approximately two minutes long, and will be the start of the festive special. This will not be when the Cybermen arrive in the Tardis, that was originally going to be put at the end of last series' Journey's End, but has been edited out completely to when the Doctor first arrives in Victorian England. This scene will be broadcast on the Children In Need night on 14th November 2008, at 7pm. You can view two screen-captions of the preview below;

The Scene That Was DELETED!

In Russell T. Davies' new book, The Writer's Tale, there is another exclusive bit, which talks about the deleted scene that could have appeared at the end of last season's Journey's End! You can see two pictures from the book below, showing two pictures, one looks like a screencap, and the other, a behind-the-scenes photo. Both have the Doctor in the Tardis, presumably at the end of last season, maybe staring at the Tardis viewscreen? With two plain Cybermen standing behind him. It would have been the usual end-of-season lead into the Christmas Special, but this year deemed unsuitable by the production team, despite everyone knowing that the metal menaces were going to be in it long beforehand. We still don't know the exact reason why they did not put it in. but don't worry, as we'll still see it, as the scene will be included in the Series 4 Box-set, out in November, but the Christmas Special might not have the scene at all on Xmas day. 'The Next Doctor' At Xmas!

The title for the Christmas Special has at long last been revealed. Not so long ago has the Sun, and a few other newspapers reported the correct title, as well as it being said in Russell T. Davies' new book, The Writer's Tale. So, here it is. The official title for the Christmas Special of Doctor Who 2008 is

The Next Doctor

Sorry if somebody hates these kinds of spoilers, but this is unmissable, and the chances are that you would have heard it somewhere else anyway! So, what do you think? Is the title actually that good, or have they come up with better in the past?

In other news, there will be a new Doctor Who exhibition in Coventry, in their Transport Museum. "This is Really fantastic news for the Coventry Transport Museum and the city. We knew that the Exhibition was touring around the country and had been in some museums, so I contacted them to ask if Coventry would be a suitable location." The new exhibition will be open from 13th march 2009. You can read more on the story here.

Another Doctor?

You've probably realised by now that anything with a '?' in the title, will most likely be a new rumour from the Sun! They're at it again, with a new report on the Christmas Special, giving away the title, and talking about David Morrissey's version of the Doctor. According to the Sun, as the 'real' Doctor arrives in Victorian England, he is about to help someone in need, but then this 'new Doctor' comes in just before him to save the day.

“The Doctor says: ‘Who are you?’ The man says, ‘I’m the Doctor!’ The Doctor becomes his companion. There will be a beautiful woman too, of course, but really it’s the Doctor paired with a new Doctor.”

Isn't this just a little bit soon after the two Doctors at the end of last series? The title they gave for the special is 'The Next Doctor'. Of course, this is awful, and probably untrue again. In the same article it said that when Steven Moffat gets hold of the show in 2010, he would make it 'sexier', and that Kate Winslet turned turned down the role of the Doctor's wife last series! Christmas Special Title?

The title for the Christmas Special has been revealed in Russell T. Davies' new book, The Writer's Tale. He confirms it as 'The Next Doctor', but we don't yet know whether it is true. Davies might have written the book months back, or even before he had even wrote the special, so he might have just slipped it in to see what happens, but probably knew that he might change it. In the book, he put's the title as a caption to a picture of David Morrissey, who has been confirmed he will be in the special, and rumours have been spreading round lately as David Morrissey's Doctor running into his present incarnation. This is what the Sun say will happen:

“The Doctor arrives, hears a damsel in distress, he steps forward to save her when this other man swings in, dashing, brilliant, amazing, clever, witty, saves the day. The Doctor says: ‘Who are you?’ The man says, ‘I’m the Doctor!’ The Doctor becomes his companion. There will be a beautiful woman too, of course, but really it’s the Doctor paired with a new Doctor.”

This is becoming ever more likely due to all the speculation, and things starting to be leaked. Some may say that this is too close to the two Doctors we had at the end of last series. But, if true, does this mean that the Doctor is due to regenerate pretty soon. David Morrissey could be his eleventh body, or could be any other from his future. Who knows?
